DEA Shuts Down More than 4,500 Online Pharmacy Web Sites09/23/05 Following the arrest of 18 people, the Federal DEA claims to be putting the brakes on more than 4,500 online pharmacy and drug related web sites. Online pharmacies have in one form or another, caused headaches in both search engine optimization as well as in general Internet usage.
Accounting for massive amounts of spam, customer deception and illegal trafficking, the 18 individuals arrested averaged more than $50,000 a day in profits from their illegal Internet based enterprise.
While pharmacy-related SPAM messages may be on a slight decline, it's unlikely that this will play a major role in our day to day Internet lives. Still, a step in the right direction never hurts -- and it's good to see some level of action being taken.
