MSN is Shopping AOL09/21/05 There's been much discussion these past few days about the possibility that MSN will buy AOL in an effort to gain immediate competitiveness in the search engine and online portal market. The value of AOL to MSN is not necessarily the company's dialup client base but rather the loyal traffic that AOL.com still receives. In fact, it's forecasted that if they were to join efforts, MSN.com and AOL.com would combine to produce more daily visitors than either Yahoo.com or Google.com. On paper, such figures would certainly lend more credibility to Microsoft's recent search engine efforts and would represent an immediate distribution channel for MSN's new PPC advertising system that's currently in the BETA test phases. This advertising system will compete head-to-head with Yahoo's Overture and Google's AdWords systems and is likely to be a revenue leader for Microsoft's newly prioritized business segment.
